Alexander Hitek

Alexander Hitek
By Georgia Nikolaou

Alexander Hitek gave us an amazing lecture full of passion and knowledge. He is a remarkable person in loved with for his work and even he is a milliner now he exist to be a casual human been. In exception with many other successful fashion designers he wants to transfer his personal experience and mistakes to us so we can learn from him.
Alexander start from a young age trying to make a difference and all his history start from his kitchen. He haven’t got any money but because of his talent many people invested on him. He used to take rubbish and makes them into something different and beautiful so he invented his own trend, steampunk. Alex trek or the father of steampunk, today is one of the most known people international but he revealed us that in his heart belong in his country, Cyprus, even if he grew abroad. My personal opinion is that his work is amazing, unusual and worth all these money. It’s inspired you to take something complicate but simple and make it practical, to see the world needs, the prepuce, the facts and cover all this with simplicity.
He gave us a lot of useful advises like how to work, how to get inspired and how be original. The passion and the tension in the way he talked it was really inspired. He told us to turn the books upside down, to study things from all their side and take the most uncommon side and turned it to an outfit, to make a statement with our designs covering in the same time the need of the world. He taught us how to be original and protect our job designing illustrations and take copyrights for proof, keep our best designs and the right time invested on them and rent never sell outfits in famous people because after their death those designs take a huge value into auctions. Also the key to success is to be part of a small group, five stranger people everyone with a deference talent and create a company.
The most important thing that taught us this presentation was to have our eyes open and be inspired from the nature, the art, museums, statuary, to follow the music and the shadows of our history roots. Also he told us to observe what people wear and follow the trend that in nowadays is alternative and street fashion.

The whole presentation was very interesting and helpful. Alexander firstly told us about his life and the start of his career presenting to us one of his early designs saying: ‘your first garment would defined if you are talented or not’. After that he presented to us one of their last pieces, the patch, which has a more practical use. Also he show us his famous ‘telephone bags’ and some hats that he designs. As he talk to us about his career, life, mistakes, obsessions and success, he let us ask questions, and take part in his presentation making us want more of him.
